So it was ugly at times, it's still a nice win. At times, they looked great and at other times, it felt a lot like the ugliness at Illinois on Tuesday.
The Hoosiers took an early 13-1 lead and pretty much controlled the game throughout. However, after being up by 20, I do have to admit that I started to get a little nervous when Michigan cut it to 8 points. I was just glad it never got any closer than that.
One item of particular concern is how many times they sent Michigan to the free throw line. They play pretty tough defense, but then commit some stupid fouls. If they wouldn't have fouled so much, they probably would have won this game by 40 points. Of course, they made up for it with their 3-point shooting, but they have to stop fouling so much.
I thought D.J. and Wilmont were the keys in building the lead, but then it was Bassett and Mike White that closed the door on this game. It was also good to see Stemler hit some shots again and Ratliffe provided some punch off the bench as well. It sounds like Ratliffe's wrist is pretty bad and will require surgery at the end of the year, but he seems to be playing pretty well through the pain.
This game was a must-win to set up the big show-down with Wisconsin on Wednesday. If they could knock off the Badgers, they would be in good position to make a run at the Big Ten title.
Go Hoosiers!

Can I vote for Tom Brady on the player list?
I Tivoed the IU Michigan game when Henderson blocked Webber's putback as time expired. Henderson also hit the game winner with 2:00 minutes to go. It was the classic Henderson shot. His toes were just inside the three-point line. I love ESPN Classic.
Here is a perspective/prediction from a Hoosier wannabe (not really, but will cheer for them against anybody but Purdue)regarding the upcoming game vs. Michigan.
I believe the Hoosiers, albeit tired, will take full advantage of actually getting to play basketball at Assembly Hall vs. running the stairs at Assembly Hall.
I believe Sampson has ordered up a big ol' can of WHOOP ASS and his boys will open it against Michigan.
IU 74 Michigan 52
Troy
PS. I think Matt Painter is a long lost son of Bob Huggins (coach of Kansas State, former coach of Cincinnati). The similarities in look are just too many.
I'm on board with the Painter/Huggins comparison. It also appears that Painter also has that "little bit of crazy" inside him just like Huggins.
I just watched a story on the 'Fab Five' at Michigan on College Game Day. You should have included the Fab Five as a most hated player in Michigan history. It is hard to pull those guys apart. Although Rose definently number 1, then Howard, then Webber, and then the other two guys that nobody really remembers.
What's the matter with Bilas and Davis? We are 10-0 at home this year. Beat Michigan the last 10 times we've played. Beaten them the last 10 times at Assembly Hall. Ammaker is 0-9 vs. IU. We're pissed about the last game. They picked us to lose this game!? I like the 11-1 start!
I seriously think Mike White either insults Sampson's family in practice or he doesn't even come to practice? Any ideas on that?
While I'm no here, do you think there is any way we could get a gentleman's agreement that every time we play Suhr the other team has to play their goober, like Michigan's #10? It's like 4 on 4 that way anyway.
Sampson just had an interview with Majerus after the game and said they have a 33% rule that says every third time down the floor DJ has to touch the ball. He said he had to make that rule or Wilmont would shoot everytime he got the ball. Davis could have used some rules like that to say every third time down the floor Bracey or Marco CAN'T touch the ball.
By the way, I forgot to include the final poll results:
Most Hated Michigan player:
5 - Jalen Rose
3 - Antoine Joubert
2 - Chris Webber
2 - Doogie Fife
2 - Tractor Traylor
1 - Juwon Howard
The Fab Five did capture 8 of the 15 votes. I probably don't need to remind this group of this fact, but I always like to bring it up any chance I get....The Fab Five never won anything, not even a Big Ten title.
As for the game predictions, all 15 voters precicted the win with 6 people accurately predicting the 15-plus point victory.
Another good win!
Bendaman is WORTHLESS! They should pull his scholarship immediately. I think he had one rebound and although it was an offensive rebound, the only reason he got it was because he was the last person up the court. I feel dumber every time I watch him play. At no time during his pointless minutes does he add a shred of value to the team.
Regarding Suhr, I agree with Cook. While I have a lot of respect for what he has accomplished, he scares the S*&t out of me when he is on the court, especially when he handles the ball.
I would like to see less of Suhr and Bendaman and more of 40 Cent and Zeke (Xavier Keeling).
also agree with pulling allen's scholarship. any rumors as to what mike white does in practice? does wisconsin have a rudy-type little guard? what am i saying? it's wisconsin. they are required to, right?
I must admit I don't get to see the Hoosiers play that often. However was Saturday's game indicative of their season so far? At the opening, they looked like they could run with Ohio State or Wisconsin. After that, they looked as stale as Al Gore on Open Mic Night at the Improv. Hopefully the Hoosier's performance on Wednesday won't remind me of the 2000 presidential election.
So 11 in a row over Michigan overall as well as 11 in a row over them at home. The last time they won in Bloomington was Jan '95. Several of us were there together with some of the best seats we had at Assembly Hall to watch a sad evening. As Jeff properly pointed out earlier they never won anything, but on that night they broke the home win streak at 50. Hopefully they beat Wisconsin this week and continue to extend the latest streak.
Update on Eric Gordon and Jarmarcus Ellis from peegs.com:
Eric Gordon - exploded for 50 points Saturday night against Warren Central but it was not enough as his North Central team fell, 81-74, in overtime. Gordon scored his team's final eight points in regulation to help North Central overcome a five point deficit in the last two minutes and put the game into overtime. He ended up shooting 15-20 from the field which included six of seven from beyond the arc. Next game(s): on Thursday host Loyola High from Wilmette, Illinois which features two of Michael Jordan's sons. That game will be shown nationally on ESPN2 at 7:30 pm.
Jamarcus Ellis - Updated season stats through 21 games show Ellis with averages of 15.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game. He is shooting 45.1% from the floor and 78.9% from the line.
