IU Basketball Pride

I'm proud to have a wonderful, beautiful wife.

I'm proud to have a terrific, good-looking litter of kids.

I'm proud to have the absolute best friends & family a guy could hope for.

And finally, I'm proud to be a graduate of Indiana University and a fan of Indiana basketball.

That's it. That's all I've got. And that's all I need.

But I truly do need these things. And right now, Kelvin Sampson is tarnishing one of those things.

Actually, Kelvin Sampson is tarnishing two of those things. I just talked to Tom and he is a shell of his former self. He is physically ill over all of this. And I've heard from many of you that are simply disgusted that this is the light being shed on our university.

D.J. White is have an outstanding season and deserves to be applauded for his college career. He has overcome difficult injuries. He made a tough decision, but the right decision, to stay at IU and not follow Mike Davis. He made a tough decision, but the right decision, to stay at IU and not enter the NBA draft before he was ready. He had dedicated himself to this team and to this university and has done so in a way that IU basketball fans expect and admire. And this how he is thanked for it….an outstanding season that nobody is talking about because Kelvin Sampson is a moron.

And because Kelvin Sampson is tarnishing these things, he's got to go and he's got to go right now.

I am a fan of IU basketball and Kelvin Sampson is not IU basketball.

Go Hoosiers!

I agree with Jeff. I am an Indiana University and an IU basketball fan first. It's a nice bonus to also be a fan of the basketball coach, but it's not a requirement. They need to fire Sampson right now. I just don't see the NCAA saying "Oops. You actually did not mislead us or knowingly violate the sanctions". If IU does not fire Sampson and they let this thing be "adjudicated" and he is still found to be guilty in the eyes of the NCAA, then IU will really get slammed. The allegations are not going to be overturned. He's guilty and he's an idiot. I personally will be relieved when the announcement of his firing comes. I'm tired of being an apologist for the IU basketball coach. Let's go get a young, clean cut up-and-comer with no baggage.

The only positive on this dark day is that we don't have to talk about that horrifying bank shot. I haven't been that horrified since I was 10 years old and snuck in to the movies to see "Halloween". I actually lost sleep last night picturing that geek of a 7 footer awkwardly lobbing up that high arcing shot.

... and Greenspan should be fired too!!

Andy, thanks for agreeing that I have a beautiful wife and good-looking kids. I will let them know.

Great "Halloween" reference.

I slept approximately 1 hour last night.

I completely agree with Andy that the NCAA is not going to turn back on its stance. The best case scenario for Sampson is a "he said/she said" and that's not a good scenario.

You have to take action now and get that good, clean-cut, up-and-comer with no baggage as soon as possible so you don't lose another year of recruiting. I actually like the name of Tony Bennett being thrown out there. He seems to fit that mold and maybe he would know how to beat Wisconsin.

As for the game, it will probably haunt me for a while and I'm guessing I'm looking at very little sleep again tonight. Not only the 7-foot dork bank-shot, but the possession before where Hughes clearly double-dribbled, then traveled, and the officials end up calling a jump-ball and give possession back to Wisconsin. Horrible.

I also fear this Saturday's game against MSU. I fear it could be a flat and drained IU team that shows up.

I just can't imagine how Sampson survives this and coaches next year. Cut him loose now and do your best to move forward.

This is when you know things have gotten really bad. I just went to indystar.com and saw the following headline: "Strange Smell Stinks Up Southern Indiana". It's a sad day when I actually have to wonder if that headline pertains to IU basketball.

No surprise here, but Devin Ebanks is weighing his options -- one of which is re-opening his recruitment. Derek Elston (09-10 recruit) remains committed to IU and Holloway (point guard recruit for next year) didn't have much to say but is monitoring the situation.

Just read on indystar.com that President McRobbie "is very much aware of the public sentiment right now." However, it goes on to say that "the president wants to ensure that all employees accused of wrongdoing in the case receive due process."

That last sentence scares me. I think if IU lets this thing go on through summer, then they risk the program receiving stiffer sanctions, they lose a year of recruiting, possibly recruits that already signed, and lose time to do a thorough search for a new coach. And at the end of it all, you are probably still in the same place where you are today with Sampson -- a bunch of he said/she said and semantics.

It sure seems to me that IU already has enough to fire him without fear of losing lawsuits and any future monies. Words in the contract include things like IU's sole discretion, failing to run a compliant program, etc. I don't think they need to wait for a Final NCAA ruling before acting. If IU waits on this thing, the program is in real jeopardy of an all-out tailspin.

My nausea is now turning to anger. I'm heading to Bloomington. I need answers.

I openly weep when I watch that IU v. Duke video. I have not cried since I do not know when (probably the last time I watched that video). I also have not smiled as big as I did when I watched that "clean, up-and-comer" sing the IU fight song. That made my day.

Jeff is right. I was in a bad state earlier today. I am just horrified that this is happening to IU. I say you either suspend him the rest of the season and then fire him once the NCAA makes a guilt ruling or simply fire him tomorrow. Either way, he cannot coach another game for Indiana. This is a dark day for the entire university, not just the basketball program. Sampson in a year and a half took away something that took IU 70 years to build. I can never forgive him for that. Greenspan is the one that hired him and should be held accountable as well. Unless Greenspan fires Sampson tomorrow, I want Greenspan relieved too.
