IU vs. Illinois

It's official, we're playing Illinois. Here are the final poll results from this week: How will IU fare in the Big 10 Tournament? 6 votes - Lose Saturday 4 votes - Lose Friday 2 votes - Lose Sunday 0 votes - Win it all Who will win the Big Ten Tournament? 8 votes - OSU 2 votes - WI 1 vote - PU (not likely, Troy) 1 vote - Iowa (this was actually me....they always seem to pull it out of their ass in the Big Ten tournament) Which Big Ten teams will make the Big Ten Tournament? 10 votes - OSU, WI, IU 9 votes - MSU 5 votes - PU, Illini 1 vote - Iowa How do you feel about the regular season results? 7 votes - Very Pleased 3 votes - Should've been better 2 votes - At Expectations Who will exceed their scoring average by the most points? 3 votes - Bassett 2 votes - D.J., Casper, 40 Cent 1 vote - Wilmont, Ratliff, Shaw Who will win on Friday? 7 votes - The Hoosiers 6 votes - IU, Indiana I'm not sure what this means, but I'm sure there is a psychological explanation. Who is this year's MVP? 12 votes - Wilmont 10 votes - D.J. I think we already beat this one to death in the comments on the previous post. Go Hoosiers!

Jeff-

Not to be too negative, but in addition to your poll question concerning the Hoosier MVP for the season, you should have asked which player had the most disappointing overall performance for the year. I also voted for DJ as MVP, but I think an argument can be made that he's not come close to meeting expectations. He's far removed from being a solid pro proscpect. DJ needs to step it up a notch for us to advance to the Sweet 16. In the Big ten Tourney, I think we'll beat Illinois. We beat them a few years ago at the United Center when they had a great team, only to subsequently lose to Alford's Hawkeyes. If DJ plays well - IU wins.

Good suggestion, Mick. I've added a poll question for most disappointing season compared to expectations.

Good points by Mick. 3-point shooting will be the key too though because you know we'll be throwing them up! If they're not going in we're bad, if they are we can be really good. That sounds too much like Mike Davis ball doesn't it?

I agree with Cook, which I why I voted for FT shooting, and I'm mostly thinking in terms of volume. If IU has another game with only 10-12 FTs then we've spent way too much time firing the 3 and I'm betting the outcome won't be good. If they get 20+ FTs then the offense was more balanced and IU wins. Of course we need to get back to hitting those FTs like we were in January.

One thing's for sure....Bruce Weber will cry.

The first definition of "cry" on dictionary.com is "to utter inarticulate sounds, esp. of lamentation, grief, or suffering, usually with tears."

Notice that it says USUALLY with tears, but not always. I'm not sure if we will see actual tears or not, but the more that we see Weber uttering inarticulate sounds of lametation, grief, or suffering, then the more likely that IU is doing their job.

I can't help but have a negative feeling about this game. I want to give it the U-Rah-Rah, but Illinois has owned us in the tourney.

But that was the Mike Davis era.

Looks like Michigan will be going after another NIT title. Ha! Ha! I've always hated them.

I think Purdue may have just played their way into the tournament with a complete whoopin' of Iowa.

Wouldn't it be great if we could beat Illinois tonight and knock them out of the tournament?!? It would be the worst nightmare for those loser Illinois fans!

at the half i'm saying rod? rod? where are you?

Yep, Wilmont is missing in action. He needs to hit a couple in the 2nd half.

Game is ugly as we all expected, but that 5-0 run by Illinois before half really hurt us.

At least they are winning....let's hope they can close it out.
