Inside the Numbers: Indiana 69 USC Upstate 61

  • IU outrebounded Upstate 23-12 in the 2nd half after getting outrebounded 18-16 in the 1st half.
  • IU 16-30 from the line.  The poor FT shooting was really spread throughout the whole team and not just one guy having an awful night.
  • IU 5-11 from the arc, even with Dumes going 0-3.  The freshmen were 5-7 from the arc led by Creek's 2-2.
  • This team needs to get some type of leadership from their upper-classmen or experienced players, but Rivers, Dumes, Jones, Roth, and Pritchard were just 8-26 from the field.
  • Watford, Creek, and Elston combined to go an impressive 15-23 from the field.
  • Watford recorded another double-double with 17 & 10.  Elston was not too far off with 10 & 8.
  • Bawa Muniru had 3 offensive rebounds in just 3 minutes of play.  That's an impressive pace of 40 offensive rebounds in a single game if Crean would just let the big fella play.  Of course, none of those offensive rebounds materialized into anything, but still an impressive stat.
  • Tom Pritchard had 0 rebounds in 10 minutes.
  • Jordan Hulls had 0 assists in 18 minutes.
  • At the end of the night, the 2-0 record is the important stat after those 2 opponents.

love Mo Creek and C-Wat. Elston too. pritch needs to be better. i think bawa is jobe's brother. neither can play. at all. roth doesn't need to play. let's get to a 9 man rotation. FTs must improve. makes me sick. love being 2-0. should be a fun team to watch! did i mention i'm not a huge VJIII fan?

I absolutely love your blog. It helps me follow IU outside of (barely) big ten land. Thanks!

Laz needs a Red Bull. He's so boring. I swear he sounds like one of the "We Care" announcers. Couldn't we get AJ Moye as the color man?

Anyway, this game was a struggle against a low level team. The must tell us a little about where we currently are in the pecking order.

I guess its going to take time.

Coach - if VJIII doesnt' improve his 38.5% FG% (10-26), then you might start to sway me. But he'll get it goin', I'm not worried.

Josh - thanks, I appreciate it.

Chris - you are right about Laz. Whenever he talks, I start working on my noose. Fortunately, I quit boy scouts and can't ever get the knot right.
