Lasting Impressions: Indiana 69 USC Upstate 61

  • Christian Watford is going to be a special, special player.
  • Derek Elston has been mighty impressive in these first two games.
  • Tom Pritchard looks more like end-of-last-season Tom Pritchard rather than beginning-of-last-season Tom Pritchard and that worries me.
  • Tonight, Devan Dumes looked more like "bad Devan" from last year.  We need "good Devan" like the one that led us to our sole Big Ten victory over Iowa last year.
  • Jeremiah Rivers and Verdell Jones need to be better.  Plain and simple.
  • Really liking what I am seeing out of Mo Creek.  A lot to learn, but the tools and desire are there.  We learned last year that desire is not enough by itself, but Mo definitely also has the tools.
  • Overall team performance was very poor.  Even keeping in mind how young and how many newcomers we have again this year, I still think this was a poor performance.
  • That said, it's pretty clear that this team has not gelled at all.  "Gelled?"  That can't possibly be right.  At least, it doesn't seem right, but I can't think of how else you would spell that.  Anyway, good individual efforts aren't yet resulting in a good overall team effort because there are just too many negative plays in between.
  • Really, the team just had one good stretch in each half and that was it.
  • Crean needs to get this offense to play better.  I think it starts with Rivers and Jones.  They should be driving and getting into the lane to make things happen.  They both have the size that they should be able to finish if they get deep enough or kick to shooters if they the defense collapses on them or make a nifty pass to a big guy for a dunk or easy bucket.
  • Very frustrating that they couldn't take the 20-point lead and completely run away with it.
  • FT shooting was not good.
  • Hey, it's a 2-game winning streak!
